A brand new “4118 Podcast” has been established to celebrate the stories of people living in the 4118 area.
Weekly episodes focus on celebrating the stories of people living in Regents Park, Browns Plains, Heritage Park, Hillcrest and Forestdale.
4118 Podcast founder Sam Escobar manages the podcast by himself at his home studio in Regents Park.
His two main reasons for creating the podcast were to share the stories of people in the local community, as well as introducing influential people such as politicians and local business owners.
“I’m just really passionate about sharing stories from our local community,” Mr Escobar said.
He hoped the podcast’s positive content would be a source of inspiration people in the community.
“It’s good news from your doorstep, in podcast form,” he said.
Mr Escobar had previously worked for 10 years for the 96.5 radio station in promotion, events and marketing, where he learned about radio production.
Throughout its one-month duration, 4118 Podcast topics have so far included Refugee Week, a lockdown story, an inspirational parent story and a discussion of local matters with Division Eight councilor Jacob Heremaia.
Sam Escobar’s parents, Claudia and Samuel Escobar, formed the 4118 Neighbourhood Facebook page in April 2020 as a positive space for the immediate community to request or offer support to each other.
The Facebook page would also be a platform to promote the community podcast and the main source for identifying local stories.
“There’s only so much you can tell through a Facebook post, whereas in a podcast you can go into a bit more detail,” Mr Escobar said.
