Applications are now open for a Logan City Council bursaries program that supports local students during their tertiary studies.
The City of Logan Tertiary Educational Bursaries provide $5000 over three years to offset the costs of attending university.
Mayor Darren Power said Council and other South East Queensland businesses proudly sponsored the bursaries to encourage local Year 12 students to further their education.
“Taking that next step from high school into university study can be financially challenging for many young people and their families,” Cr Power said.
“We have some of the brightest minds here in the City of Logan and money should not be a barrier for someone to reach their potential, especially if they’ve demonstrated academic excellence during their high school years.
“These bursaries can be used to buy textbooks, stationery or other essential items, taking some of the pressure off so they can focus on their studies instead.”
The bursaries are open to City of Logan students completing Year 12 locally and intending to attend university in Queensland in 2022. Applications close on December 3.
The first Logan City Tertiary Educational Bursaries were established with solicitors Corrs Chambers Westgarth in 1996. Since then, more than 100 students have been supported.
