Codie grew up playing rugby for the Mustangs Brothers Rugby League Football Club under 6’s – under 11’s teams between 1997-2002 and was coached by Debbie. 20 years later he returned to his home club during a rugby tour with the All Blacks in Australia. Codie, who was originally from the small town of Levin north of Wellington, returned to NZ and joined the New Zealand Under 20’s team, which won the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship. He made his provincial debut in 2012 and Super Rugby debut in 2013. Codie was selected for the All Blacks in 2015 and captained the Crusaders to the Super Rugby title in 2020. Nicci Martin from the Mustangs Brothers said Codie was passing by and happened to appear during the club’s presentation day, where more than 400 players and family members were present. Codie told Nicci it was awesome to get back to the club and see that it was still going strong after 20 years.
