Twelve members from the Berrinba Runners group in Logan West achieved fantastic results at the River Run event in Brisbane City on Sunday 12 September.

The River Run consisted of five separate competitions, including a 5km run, a 10km run, a half marathon, a full marathon, and a seven-hour Enduro event, where participants ran loops around Brisbane city for seven hours.

36-year-old Liam Wilson from Park Ridge competed in the seven-hour Enduro run against 32 other competitors.

“You run as many kilometers as you can during the seven-hour time frame,” he said.

He officially ran a total of 75 kilometres, which placed him first out of the male competitors and second overall.

“The body is still feeling it – it’s been a rough week on the legs.”

bAround five years ago Mr Wilson couldn’t run one kilometre straight.

“I used to weigh about 120 kilos,” he said.

“I found running, and slowly chipped away at the weight.”

His main motivation for running was when he looked back on wedding photos from 2012 and realised how much weight he had gained.

“I had a really poor diet – I didn’t exercise very much at all,” he said.

“That was probably the catalyst to getting my backside into gear.”

Mr Wilson and his wife Lizzie now both train with the Berrinba Runners; a group that runs two training sessions a week and caters for people of all abilities and ages.

“It’s been a really good motivator,” he said.

Lizzie competed her first half marathon in July and scored a new personal best at the River Run half marathon.

Berrinba Runners coach Alison said the overall results from the River Run event over the weekend were “fantastic”.

Berrinba Runners Brooke Bregg took an hour off her marathon personal best, and James Finch ran his fastest half marathon yet.
