Team Escobar in Regents Park has sought help from the community to provide toys to children who would otherwise not receive a gift this Christmas.
After the success of last year’s Christmas toy appeal, Team Escobar reached out to Browns Plains Child Safety Centre once again to help provide gifts to kids in care.
Claudia Escobar came up with the idea of coordinating a toy appeal in 2020 after speaking with a family member who works in Child Services.
“Last year somewhere around August, she was telling me how much they struggle to get toys for the kids that are in care,” she said.
Mrs Escobar contacted Child Safety Browns Plains to put forward the idea of running a community toy appeal.
“They were extremely happy and welcomed the idea to do it,” she said.
Anyone interested in donating is encouraged to provide a brand new gift up to the value of $20 for children between 0-16 years old.
Gifts can include toys or items such as handbags and sports equipment for older children.
“It is really amazing to see in the community how much they are willing to help and how much they are willing to give, especially during the Christmas period when everyone is busy with life,” Mrs Escobar said.
“It is also good to see the number of businesses that put their hands up to say ‘we’re happy to collect the toys for you guys.’ ”
