Dane Swan Match with Pirates Back On

Dane Swan Match with Pirates Back On

AFL Star and Brownlow Medalist Dane Swan will finally play with the Park Ridge Pirates in March next year, after plans to play this June were postponed due to COVID restrictions.

The AFL Legend was previously set to match with the Pirates against Alexandra Hills and attend their fundraiser on June 26, before Victoria was declared a hotspot on June 19, and the game was postponed indefinitely.

However, now that restrictions have eased, the much-anticipated match is back on, set for Saturday, March 22, 2022.

The Pirates are in for a treat as this will be Danes only appearance in Queensland next year, playing in round one of the season, which will commence at 2 pm with Reserve Grade starting at midday.

Pirates President Andy Colenso says he could not be more excited that the game is finally being revamped.

“It’s a great opportunity to get Swanny up here to play a local game of footy at Park Ridge,” Colenso said.

“Not very often you have a chance to get up and close to an AFL Brownlow Medallist and Premiership Player at this community level of footy.

“I am sure the opposition will enjoy it as well.”

As it’s a new season, Andy says that the opposition is not decided yet; however, there will still be a fundraising luncheon on Friday, March 21.

“We are still awaiting the League to approve our opponent, so we are not sure who we will be playing at this stage,” Colenso said.

“We will be holding a luncheon on Friday with Dane and will release those details shortly.”

Andy says the game on Saturday will be a lively event.

“After the game on Saturday, Dane will stay around to mingle with the crowd, and we will be putting on live music to encourage the public to stick around and enjoy the opportunity to meet him.

“There will also be photo and autograph opportunities.”

In June, Park Ridge News spoke to the Swan about the postponement. He expressed his disappointment however was committed to visiting when circumstances allowed.

“We are very disappointed that we cannot come to Brisbane and Park Ridge footy club next week,” Mr Swan said.

“They are ripper guys, and it would be great to play with them.

“We intend to make it up to Park Ridge and the lads as soon as we can.”

Now we can say he kept his promise.
