Stage 1: The dental check up

X-Ray’s are done if it is your first appointment, otherwise these are generally done every 2 years. The great news here is that our digital x-ray’s have less radiation.

We then check the condition of your teeth, taking into account the time since your last dental visit and this helps us assess and problems that have either developed or are showing early signs so that we can work with you to stop these before they become a pain.

Following this we have an oral care review discussion that covers:
• your diet
• at-home cleaning routines
• type of toothbrush you use (hint: it should always be a soft one)
• your gums, sensitivities and any gum recession
• the types of toothpaste and what is best for you

Together with you we will discuss options for solving any problems and design an ongoing care plan for maintaining optimum oral health.

Stage 2: Professional dental clean

Also known as a scale and clean, the dental clean part of your dental appointment is an important part of maintaining ongoing excellent oral health and preventing painful problems from occurring.

In this process we remove the tartar build up that has hardened on your teeth and you can’t remove at home. Often the part of a check-up hated by most, our Park Ridge dentists approach this with a firm but gentle touch and are able to respond your needs to ensure you are comfortable throughout. If it is really uncomfortable, we do luckily always have the option of nitrous gas, aka happy gas or laughing gas.

Stage 3: Protecting with Fluoride

The bad horrible plaque has just been cleaned off your teeth, revealing the healthy white tooth underneath. This is a great time to apply a protective layer of fluoride onto this surface to strengthen and protect your teeth.
