Federal Budget: Bert’s Highlights for Forde

Federal Member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP, applauded last night’s Federal Budget saying, ‘We are going through a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic and we have outperformed the world in our health and economic response. We are recovering strongly but this Budget is about ensuring that we secure that recovery.’ 

Key Budget announcements for Forde:

  • Over 13,500 people are employed in construction and manufacturing in Forde. This Government values the importance of the residential construction sector in driving jobs and economic growth. This Budget is expected to support over $30 billion in residential construction activity through Home Builder. 
  • The Government’s low and middle income tax offset will benefit more than 70% of income earners in Forde – up to $1080 for singles and up to $2160 for couples. 
  • Around 2380 Forde families will be better off by an average of $2200 thanks to the Government’s $1.7 billion additional funding for families with two children or more at pre-school care.
  • The Boosting Apprenticeships Commencements (BAC) wage subsidy program has supported 705 apprenticeships and trainees in the Forde electorate. This program means employers receive 50% of an apprentice or trainee’s wage worth up to $7000 per quarter.
  • $178.1 million for rail line capacity improvement for the Gold Coast Rail Line between Beenleigh and Kuraby. 
  • headspace in Upper Coomera and Meadowbrook will be better able to support young people with complex mental health needs thanks to the Government’s $278.6 million to expand and enhance headspace youth mental health services. 

Mr van Manen said, ‘As well as creating security for working families in Forde, we have a suite of packages aimed at protecting the vulnerable.  We’ve allocated $998.1 million for programs aimed at ending Domestic Violence, $2.3 billion package for services aimed at mental health and $17.7 billion to ensure older Australians are treated with respect, care and dignity. Having endured so much over the past year, keeping everyone safe is a key focus of this government.’
