Division 8 Councillor, Jacob Heremaia, has announced that he will not be running for Treasurer of Logan City in 2021.

Amid weeks of speculation, Cr Heremaia said at city hall today that he won’t be putting his hand up for the position.

“I’d like to thank my colleagues and the public for their kind words of support but I’m not running for Treasurer in 2021. I’m going to focus my attention on working with the residents of Division 8 to make sure our neighbourhoods continue to be something Logan City can be proud of. There’s plenty of work to do and I’m just getting started.”

Councillor Heremaia had been leasing a shop space in Park Ridge Town Centre to meet with residents after hours. In 2021 he has taken his office mobile and will be setting up opportunities to meet with residents in their neighbourhoods throughout the year. Both of these initiatives have been paid for out of his own pocket.

Councillor Heremaia was elected as Chairman of the Procurement and Appropriations Special Committee last year and is excited about the opportunity to serve the wider city through this role. The Committee is aimed at ensuring Logan City Council receives value for money when spending approximately $500 million on goods and services every year.

The Treasury role has been vacant since last year and it is expected that councillors at Logan City Council will vote on a new treasurer early this year.
