Park Ridge State High School Year 12 student Reuben Price competed at the Queensland State Titles netball grand final with the Queensland Suns Men’s 17 and under team on September 21, 2021 at the Nissan Arena in Brisbane.
The Queensland Suns men’s team won the match 46-12 against the Bond University Bull Sharks women’s team.
“It was quite a good game,” Rueben said.
“I played to the standard that my coach wanted me to play at.”
The men’s team was invited to play last year, but were not allowed in the grand finals until this year.
Despite being beaten by women’s teams before, a few people on the sidelines and on social media were unhappy that the men’s Suns were allowed to compete against a women’s team at the grand final this year.
“I think they didn’t want us playing in the finals, because it might have been unfair,” Reuben said.
“Our team didn’t really hear it, so it didn’t really affect us.”
Reuben’s passion for netball began when he was 10 years old.
He was introduced to the sport by his mother, who played netball for Springwood.
Reuben’s future netball goals included playing for the national men’s team through the Australian Men’s & Mixed Netball Association.
He hoped to be selected for the Sun’s Men’s national squad at the upcoming tryouts in November 2021.
