Coffey Park in Crestmead has received a major upgrade with “bespoke, customised playground equipment”.
Logan City Council division eight councillor Jacob Heremaia promoted the park’s new features in a Facebook post on May 13, 2021.
“The park has CCTV surveillance, a pirate ship playground and an industrial strength shade sailing that will be constructed in the next couple of months,” he said.
“There’s also a little café play store … they can pretend they’re a barista, or café owner.
“We’re getting that physical play, but also that intellectual play”
Mr Heremaia said one big reason Coffey Park received an upgrade was to accommodate for the needs of many young families in the area.
“It encourages that healthy lifestyle, where they can walk down and meet with other families after school and after work at a local gathering spot,” he said.
“Now that it’s been delivered, we’re starting to see people come with their kids.
“It’s rewarding to be able to see those families building that social network in the community.”
Mr Heremaia said the upgrade was a “local win” for the people in Crestmead, and that more park upgrades would be delivered in Division Eight in the coming years.
“Something that I’m fighting for in council is making sure that our local parks are upgraded,” he said.
Mr Heremaia said safety features at the park include CCTV cameras to ensure antisocial behaviour is “monitored and reduced” around the residential area.
“An industrial strength shade sail will be installed in the coming months to keep our community’s kids sun safe,” he said.
