Logan Loves Seniors Day a Success

Logan Loves Seniors Day a Success

The annual Logan Loves Seniors day festivities kicked off under the Wineglass Water Tower last Friday, the 22nd October 2021, to celebrate our community’s senior citizens in light of Seniors Month.

The event commenced with an exhibition at 9 am held at the Logan West Community Centre, featuring a range of arts and crafts, gardening, cooking and woodworking demonstrations for the guests.

While the Wineglass Cafe dished up delicious meals, senior social groups ran information stalls, including the notable RSL Men’s Shed and The Scooter Gang from Boronia Heights.

The Scooter Gang‘s founder Lillian Stranic said that the event was a knockout despite a rainy start.

“It was pretty damp and wet on the ground there, but it was an amazing day, and we need more of it,” Mrs Stranic said.

Many local councillors attended, including; Cr Laurie Koranski, Natalie Willcocks, and Division 7’s Cr Tim Frazer, who says the Men’s Shed woodshop demonstration was a highlight.

“Watching the Men’s Shed, the guy making wood tops for kids, watching him rip into the wood and making them every few minutes was cool,” Cr Frazer said.

“It was good to see all the local stalls there.”

Other honourable mentions include; the giant chessboard and the ‘As I Age Wall’, where seniors added things they’ve learnt as they’ve grown older. Among the best responses were: As I age;

  • ‘Life gets better.’
  • ‘I have more fun!!’
  • ‘Thankful for a husband to carry my bag!’
  • ‘Thankful I can take a breath when I wake up.’
  • ‘I’m thankful for my family.’
  • ‘I do what I like when I like.’

Finally, the day concluded with a Rocket Man Flying Solo Elton John Tribute show, starring Greg Andrews.
