Logan Metro Football Club celebrates Grand Final victory

The Logan Metro Football Club senior men’s team celebrated a big win at the Capital League 1 Grand Finals on Saturday 16 October at the Perry Park stadium in Bowen Hills.

The premier team won with a score of 3-0 in a 90 minute game against North Pine.

Logan Metro Football Club co-founder Sam Escobar said the boys played really well.

“The team was really committed to get to this grand final and get something out of this season,” he said.

“The big highlight for us was the way they played.

“They dominated the game and scored three really good goals.”

Mr Escobar said the team received a lot of support from the large noisy crowd, which spurred the boys on and created a great atmosphere.

“It was definitely a great night; a bit of a tough season with a bit of ups and downs, but it was good to finish on a high.”

The premier open’s team composed of men between 17 and late 20’s beat Pine Hills at the semi finals the weekend before with a score of 2-1, which qualified them for the Grand Finals.

Team captain Jean-Mike Jabo said the team fought hard, worked hard, and reached their goals.

“Honestly we could not have done this without the supporters coming out and giving us that energy that we need, always having our back,”  he said.

Head coach Forbes Madau said winning the grand final was a good feeling.

“Before the game started everyone was nervous, but when we started playing football we were in control,” he said.

“The supporters were fantastic – we had 500 here, and they supported us from kick-off to the final whistle.

“I think the future of the club is very bright … next season we might aim for bigger things.”

Logan Metro Football Club president Samuel Escobar said the crowd support from the Logan Metro Football Club family was unbelievable, and the boys played very well.

“That’s what we needed as a club – a grand final win,” he said.
