Logan West Community Pantry

A new community initiative is fast becoming a topic of conversation and possibly a long-awaited remedy to finally address the stigma of food insecurity that is being experienced by individuals and families in our Logan West Community.

Sons of God Ministries Ltd is a registered charity and responsible for the Logan West Community Pantry.  The charity experienced a dramatic influx of food relief inquires just weeks after Covid 19 and reported a 200 percent increase in crisis hampers, due to the 2-week isolation period.

As the national restrictions eased it became clear that the “road-out” of Covid also presented an opportunity to have a “road-out” strategy for the community, and a real solution to food insecurity.  The old saying that ‘nothing changes, until something changes’, was all that was needed to turn a small idea into a community project.

Still in its infancy, Logan West Community Pantry is giving back to the community in every way that they can.  In the first week of launching, the charity gave away 40 free food parcels to families in need and saw people coming from as far away as Ipswich and Brisbane.

A regular donor to the Breakfast Club of Boronia Heights State School and in conjunction with the Logan West Chaplaincy service, Logan West Community Pantry provides food parcels for the Chaplain to give to families, and breakfast items to the school for the students.

Currently seeking Logan Councils help to gain access to a facility, The Logan West Community Pantry will continue to run under the charity, and the distribution of food will be done through their facebook page (Logan West Community Pantry).

Hoping to develop a food rescue program in the local area from businesses and food manufacturers, the charity is serious about changing the narrative of food insecurity and is eager to work towards a common goal to see the Logan West community thrive.

Under the watchful eye of two charity members Melissa Nukutarawhiti and Katrina Christie, the Logan West Community Pantry will be primed to open doors in the Logan West area sometime this year.  Until then if you have any inquiries or need assistance you can contact them through their facebook page.
