Meet the new Principal ofParklands Christian College…
Mr Gary Cully
I am honoured to be the third Principal of Parklands Christian College – a school at which I have had the privilege to serve for over 16 years, and that I consider my home.
In 2003, when the College was only 2 years old, I joined a small team of pioneering teachers, and Principal Mr David Baskerville to help start the Secondary School. With big dreams and a confidence in great things to come, our team set out in faith to create a school that loved kids and would serve countless future generations of students and their families throughout Logan City.Today I return to Parklands as it commences its 19th successful year.
In 2016, Hannah and my 3 children Maya, Lauren & Judah packed up our Australian lives, and with the support of our church, family, friends and many colleagues and families at Parklands, we moved to Cebu, Philippines. This remarkable step of faith was the beginning of a beautiful ministry serving disadvantaged young women rescued from the streets of Cebu, and giving them a hope for the future through vocational education and training in hospitality – bakery, sugar art and barista skills. Our three and a half years in Cebu serving with Bloom Asia was a blessing beyond our imagining, and we feel incredibly privileged to be able to have served in such a capacity. We pray for our beautiful Bloom Cebu staff and students every day.
As I return to Parklands after this incredibly rich and life-changing experience, I trust that I can bring back many of the lessons I have learned over the past few years. Working in a trauma informed workplace, and witnessing desperate poverty and its impact on my dear staff and students, I can’t help but appreciate how hard life can be, and how faith, hope and love can become life changing tools. I have learnt the value of affirmation and speaking hope into young lives. I have seen the power of kindness, transformation through gratitude, and the profound impact and simple beauty of offering unconditional love. These truths can be applied everywhere and to every child and parent, and I plan to work hard at connecting with our school community in this way.
Our Staff, Parents, Students and Alumni are an incredibly welcoming, loving and encouraging community, and come from a diverse cross section from all over Logan City and beyond.I am sincerely looking forward to rejoining this community and serving the Parklands Family in 2020 and God willing, for many years to come.
