The first ever Movies Under the Wineglass event in Hillcrest kicked off on October 2, 2021 as the community gathered to enjoy a free community outdoor theatre experience.

“Zathura” was played on the big inflatable screen while families enjoyed popcorn, drinks, fairy floss and a sausage sizzle.

The event was even attended by Brisbane Spider-man, who spent the night hanging upside-down, providing fun hand-outs to guests and snapping photos with his fans.

The night was hosted by Browns Plains resident Brad Eastall aka “Brad DJ” who works in parties and entertainment.

The father of four hosted regular outdoor movie nights in his own backyard for family and friends, and he and created the Movies Under the Wineglass event to bring people together in the community.

“I was happy with how it all turned out,” he said.

“We had the jumping castle from Park Ridge Connect, which was really good.

“Spiderman had a really good time – he really enjoyed it and he wants to come back.”

“Then there was the pre-show entertainment that was on that was full of little games and trivia questions up on the screen before the movie, which I believe everyone enjoyed.”

Boronia Heights resident Fiona Barret attended the night with her son and his friend.

“Both boys enjoyed the jumping castle, popcorn and the movie,” she said.

“Brad always puts on brilliant well-organised events; we can’t wait to see what the Halloween movie will be.”

Logan resident Belinda Small said it was fantastic to see so many families enjoying time together in the fresh air.

“My children were pretty excited that Spiderman was hanging around – literally,” she said.

“The movie quality on the big screen was awesome – the sound was great, there were no problems.”

The night was sponsored by the Matt Fiddes Martial Arts in Logan, the Logan West Community Pantry, Park Ridge Connect and Park Ridge News.

Other volunteers ran popcorn and fairy floss stalls.

The next Movies Under the Wineglass event will be a Halloween-themed dress-up event on Saturday 30 October at 5pm.

Guests can cast their vote and movie suggestions on the Movies Under the Wineglass Facebook page

Mr Eastall hoped that the October event would be bigger and better.

“If we get more sponsors, we are hoping to have two movies on the night,” he said.
