Parklands Christian College is set to unveil an exciting new upgrade to its Baskerville Sports Complex this week as new flooring is finalised.

The upgrade replaces the old concrete floors with a new polyurethane sports surface made from high quality Pulastic product.

Sports Facilities Manager Anthony Paolino hopes that the upgrade will enhance the safety and playability of the facility for students and the community.

‘We wanted to provide the students with a proper sporting floor, a) for safety and b) as a better end product for the students when they’re performing sport during the week or in competition.’

With the new upgrade, Mr Paolino is looking forward to the sports complex playing a bigger role in the community, acting as a facility that can be used on a hire basis.

‘The whole purpose of this facility was to provide our students with a premier product, something that they’re going to be able to enjoy and use on a regular basis, and that’s the similar sort of thing that we offer the community – we want them to be able to come in here on a hire basis and have this as an option to be able to play sport or any other function.’

With the addition of new flooring, the Sports Complex provides a professional indoor playing area, as well as a multi-purpose stage, toilets fully equipped with showers and an upstairs gym.

‘When you have a facility like this, it’s basically one of a kind in the area, based on the actual floor we’ve got. It’s a pretty unique space for the Park Ridge area.’

The new complex, built in 2017, has already received community attention, with the Brisbane Roar Academy teams using the facility for training purposes.

Mr Paolino stresses that its benefit is not just limited to the school or to sporting groups. Among the existing and planned uses include festivals, youth groups, music, Taekwando, Futsal, Basketball, Netball, Volleyball, and Dancing.

‘There’s plenty of opportunity for so many people to come in here and use the space. It just lends itself to so many different things, more than just sport. We want adults and kids alike to come in here– whether its playing sports through other organisations or our student participation.’

Parklands Christian College offers several sporting programs and activities. According to their website,

‘Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and learning valuable life lessons and skills through sport is a significant part of the sport program at Parklands.’
