Pirates announce Summer AFL Program

Pirates launch Summer AFL Program

The Park Ridge Pirates AFL club are urging kids aged 8-14 in the area to join a new summer program that will provide expert coaching, starting this November.

The program, organised by GroundWork Coaching, kicks off on Sunday, November 21st, at the Calamvale Sports Field, involving 3, 2hr sessions across three weeks, plus a bonus game session.

Pirates President Andy Colenso says the training program will be invaluable for kids seeking to excel in AFL.

“It will offer kids a full realistic approach to footy, not just skills. There will be information about preparation, hydration and diet so kids understand the full regimes of playing AFL as they get older,” Mr Colenso said.

“The coaches are all specialised in various areas of the game that will conduct and deliver the program.”

Mr Colenso says he and the club worked tirelessly to make this available to the area and looks forward to seeing the kids gain not just AFL skills but also core life skills.

“Extremely excited to see what kids can take from this moving forward and use it as a benefit for the time they spent doing the program,” Mr Colenso said.

“Firstly to keep having fun and enjoying the game with their friends and secondly to adapt to varying changes whether it is skill-related, mindfulness or health, but to be adaptable in these changing times.”

Mr Colenso says our community’s kids must have access to specialist training like the summer program for their professional and personal development.

“This program isn’t just about Park Ridge Pirates; it’s about having these types of programs and opportunities in our Region for our kids as we feel they deserve them,” Mr Colenso said.
