How will you navigate the tension between more people moving into the area and the needs of wildlife and the environment?
As your elected Councilor I will advocate that new developments include an increase in the amount of land set aside for public reserves and parks because at this time I do not feel that enough importance is being placed on this resource. Reserves, parks and public areas not only allow for the preservation of our wildlife, trees and vegetation but provide a very important asset to the overall wellbeing and development of our community structure.
What are the highest priority transport services and infrastructure you will be advocating for in your division?
Whilst I welcome the new bus service our Division has been provided with, I will advocate for continual improve to the service, with an extension that connects with the Springfield train service. In addition I would like to see a Thursday night and weekend service, to connect with job and social opportunities both in and outside of our Division. The DRT service also needs to be extended to service all parts of our Division.
What can Division 7, 8, 9 & 11 councillors do to assure more of the city budget is invested in the west?
In respect of infrastructure planning and spending it is important that all divisions of the Logan Council benefit in a proportional way based on forecast growth. As Division 11 is the fastest growing area it is important to ensure that I Natalie Willcocks, as your elected representative on the council, provide you ‘the residents of Division 11’ a voice that is not only heard but counted in the Council decision making.
What do you think is the most important issue facing your division and how will you respond to it?
When elected, I will work amicably alongside the other Councillors and Mayor who are elected in the 2020 Logan City Council Elections however, I will first and foremost always work for the residents of Division 11 to ensure that we are no longer the ‘forgotten division’ of the Logan City Council. I will always work to bring our community together to ensure that we belong to and are heard within the Logan City Council.
What is one thing you’d like to achieve during your first term as councillor?
I would like to see improvements to public transport and road infrastructure for Division 11. While improvements have been made in regards to public transport, there is room for improvement with a much needed bus service to connect with the Springfield train line. Also a Thursday night and Saturday bus service would be a huge improvement for residents. Any road infrastructure improvements NEED to be consulted with the community, not just computer generated.
How can residents in your division be involved and empowered to solve local problems together with council?
As your elected councillor to Division 11 I will consult with the community as it is important that you the residents are heard and have an opportunity to have your say. This can be done in numerous ways using modern day facilities such as Email, letter, phone, Facebook, Instagram (social media platforms) or local Meet and Greets. Residents of Division 11 will have a voice via me and they will be heard.
What qualities, experience or skills make you stand out as a candidate?
My experience as a teacher and involvement in local sports, schools and clubs has provided me with community involvement and intimate knowledge of the Divisional area. I will advocate, consult and fight for what is best for our community and I will work harmoniously with the other elected Councillors and Mayor. I have the experience required when working with Government agencies and advocating for those who need it most.
How were you involved in your division prior to announcing your candidacy?
I have lived in the area for 15 years and have worked as a High School Teacher in Logan for 10 years, 5 of those of years at Flagstone State Community College. My children attend/ed Greenbank State School and are members of Greenbank Gators Swimming Club (where I am the founding President) and Flagstone Netball Club. I am passionate about our community and will work for and with the Division in which we all live.
