Rotary Club of Browns Plains became Logan’s newest affiliate of Rotary International last April, but they have only been able to celebrate now due to COVID, as marked by a special event attended by clubs from all over Logan and Brisbane.
More than 60 people including a number of distinguished guests attended the occasion at the Browns Plains Haka Club on January 29 this year.
“It’s like a baby being born,” says Rotary Club Board Member Jane Tan. “There’s a few clubs in Logan, but Browns Plains was missing one.”
Browns Plains Rotary Club has achieved a lot through four projects in the short time it has been operating.
It has delivered food hampers, school supplies, and literacy books, and has just finished donating building supplies and money to a joint project started by the Rotary Club of Brisbane International, which will send money and a shipping container full of building supplies to a Fijian community ravaged by cyclone Yasa.
“Through the cluster of all our district, I think they finalised $36,000 in fundraising plus a shipment full of equipment,” says Ms Tan.
Brown Plains rotary meet the first and third Thursday of every month and new members are always welcome.
