Logan West’s brand-new senior’s Scooter Gang kicked off in July 2021, creating a fun and free space for people over 55 to connect and socialise with eachother.

The group meets on the third Saturday of every month at 11am at the Boronia Heights Bushland Reserve for barbeques, picnics, fitness, walks, scooter rides, and more.

Boronia Heights local Lillian Stranic started the project as a cost-free opportunity for people in the community to make friends and share stories, which they might not otherwise be able to do.

“It’s all about the community,” she said.

“Seniors have nothing around here – wherever they go, they have to spend money, which pensioners cannot afford.”

Lillian had dedicated several years to helping people in need.

“My time is not over – I still have work to do, and I think this is my calling,” she said.

“When I’m gone, I’ll still be around helping people.”

The project received support from various members of the community, including Logan West Community Pantry administrator Katrina Christie, Creative Cuts hairdressers, and MP for Logan Linus Power.

“You don’t need a scooter, but a good scooter attitude,” Mr Power said.

The Scooter Gang would welcome people including senior’s fitness instructors, health experts, and dance and entertainment groups to volunteer at the monthly meetings.

“I want something that’s different – that will attract people and promote healthier lifestyles,” Lillian said.

Every few months, the Scooter Gang team planned to host a lunch or dinner event for all seniors in the Logan West area.

“We’d also like to have multicultural and Indigenous people perform,” Lillian said.

Her greater vision was to eventually expand the Scooter Gang and promote better physical, emotional and mental health for seniors across Australia.

Scooter Gang gatherings are held on the third Saturday of each month at 11am at the Boronia Heights Bushland Reserve.

People interested in attending can either email the team at thescootergang2021@outlook.com or call Lillian Stranic on 0400 779 088.
