Spare Biz Space is a new business concept designed by Logan West business consultant Helen Cowley.
The Spare Biz Space website, which became available in April 2021, was designed to create a partnership between small businesses looking for space and those who have it.
Mrs Cowley, who has 26 years of experience, said the initiative was all about the “shared economy,” and would help businesses make more income by doing business in more ways.
“Particularly now with Covid, we have a lot of people and a lot of businesses who have spaces that they’re not utilising,” she said.
“We are very much about being creative, and being creative about the use of the spaces that we’ve got.
“I think it could be very successful … I’ve already had enquiries from 4 other states.”
Mrs Cowley said listings could include any sort of underutilised business space, including creative spaces, commercial kitchens, warehouses, desk spaces and photography studios.
“It’s definitely not just desk space.
“Somebody that makes cakes may not have a commercial kitchen at home, but they can find a commercial kitchen that they can go and use,” she said.
Mrs Cowley said people with home business spaces could also list their properties if they had insurance and an ABN number.
“We’re really trying to get the word out there that this website is here and that people can list their space,” she said.
“It’s free to list.
“Helping small businesses is what I do,” she said.
