If you're interested in this and many more stories from Logan West's history, send your request to info@parkridgeconnect.com.au✈️ PARK RIDGE AIRFIELD ✈️Our area was home to a World War 2 airfield! In the 1940s, the United States Engineers requested the construction of an airfield in Park Ridge to accommodate for the increased military presence at the time. A young surveyor called Clem Jones was assigned to the project. He shifted the original position of the landing strip to avoid the demolition of a local house. The airfield was built in 1942 near the intersection of Park Ridge Rd & Chambers Flat Rd and was over 1300 metres long!Once urgency of the war receded in 1943, the strip was used for emergencies and as a decoy to protect large military installations nearby. The Bumstead family recalled watching planes land at the airstrip. A local road, Bumstead Rd, was named after this family. The young surveyor, Clem Jones, went on to serve as the 8th Lord Mayor of Brisbane from 1961 to 1975. If you're interested in local history, I recommend reading Park Ridge Connect's History of Logan West magazine.- Jacob ... See MoreSee Less

🚧 ROADWORKS CHANGES 🚧The roadworks on Green Rd will change starting in March! This development was approved before my time in council. Council engineers have been working with the traffic company to make these plans. I've been working hard throughout these roadworks. ❗️ The current traffic light system on Green Rd will be removed and replaced with a one-way circuit using the new roads that have just been built. This one-way circuit has been highlighted green in the picture on this post. There will be traffic lights at the intersection of Rai Dr and Green Rd. ❗️ A section of Bumstead Rd between Clarke Rd and Julie St will be closed to upgrade the road. Only this section, not the whole of Bumstead Rd, will be closed. They say these works should be complete by May 2021, dependent on weather and delays. I will make sure to keep in touch with the traffic engineers to keep updated on this project. ❗️ New signs will be installed to show alternate routes throughout Park Ridge and Crestmead. This whole area will have roadworks and heavy machinery, so please consider additional travel time or taking a different route.Keep safe.- Jacob ... See MoreSee Less
