Why make time for exercise?

by InSports Team

Too often, we forget to make time for our own health. Maybe you feel guilty for taking time out or are just too tired?

When you put yourself first and engage in regular exercise, many of the concerns you have around exercise start to melt away. You don’t have to
go hard with your workouts. Try alternating your routine with gentle fitness classes such as Yoga to ease tension and restore your energy in a calm way.

WHAT’S HOLDING YOU BACK?

The most common reasons given for not exercising are:

  • Lack of time
  • Feeling tired
  • Lack of motivation
  • Not having friends to exercise with
  • Feeling self-conscious about appearance

Let’s look at some strategies to overcome these barriers and help you put yourself first when it comes to staying active:

IF YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME…

Prior planning prevents

poor performance. Think about how you might be able to fit some exercise

into your day and make it an “appointment” in your diary.

IF YOU’RE TOO TIRED…

It’s well established that regular exercise can help improve resistance to fatigue so just get started

IF YOU LACK MOTIVATION…

Robert McKain famously wrote that “action precedes motivation”. Put simply, it’s not worth waiting for the motivation to exercise. It really is a case of “just do it!”.

IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANYONE TO EXERCISE WITH…

Join a fitness class. It makes exercise more enjoyable and you will meet new people
