Logan West: the name on the water tower, the news beat on the ridge

A community-centre address, a cluster of suburbs, and a paper that covers the shared roads without pretending they are one gazetted place.

Logan West is how people on this side of the city say “here” without listing eight suburb names. It is not a substitute for those names in a DA or a flood warning. Logan City Council’s Hillcrest history records that the Wineglass water tower was constructed in 1984, that a Park Ridge ambulance station opened under it in May 1982, and that the Logan West Community Centre grew from a relocated house (1982) into a civic precinct with a police station (1988) and later refurbishments. Council’s venue page still lists the centre at 2 Wineglass Drive, Hillcrest 4118.

That postcode is why an old 4118 podcast URL still deserves a live page. The number is a local identity marker. The new text will not invent episodes or guests.

The corridor’s public story is growth plus water. Regional media directories have described Logan West as a fast-growing western Logan catchment; this site will not invent a population forecast of its own. Council and Queensland Government planning documents are the place for yields and dwelling targets. Our development guide is how a resident reads the fence sign in front of them.

Flooding complicates the “west means ridge” shortcut. Park Ridge can be dry while Chambers Flat, Logan Reserve or Waterford are not. People still work, shop and go to school across those lines. That is why the weather desk is a Logan West desk even when the water is kilometres away. See 2022 and the organising guide.

The independent Park Ridge News domain is not the print title that was renamed Logan West News in 2022. We say that plainly so a search engine does not mash two publishers together. This website covers the same geography as a community beat. It does not claim the other masthead’s circulation, staff or advertisers. If you arrived from a print-magazine listing, you are on a different publisher’s website that happens to keep the older domain’s editorial paths alive as a public file.

For day-to-day orientation, treat Logan West as a way of speaking and the gazetted suburb as a way of filing. A DA, a flood overlay and a school catchment all care about the suburb line. A hall booking at Wineglass Drive cares about the street address. This newsroom will ask you for both.
