Eleven years a reflection — how a local paper thinks about time

The heritage slug marked an anniversary essay. This rewrite is about what a Logan West newsroom should remember, and what it should stop repeating, after a decade-plus of community copy.

Charcoal newsprint columns for an anniversary reflection.

Anniversary essays are where local papers congratulate themselves. This one will not. The URL /11-years-a-reflection/ survives because it was a masthead marker. The useful question is what a Park Ridge and Logan West file should contain once the balloons go down.

It should contain place: Park Ridge as the Logan Ridges, Greenbank as selections plus a training area, Logan West as a corridor around the Wineglass. It should contain water: 1887 still on top of BOM’s table, 2022 versus 2017 as a comparison residents still argue. It should contain ground: the 1942 airstrip. It should contain method: how we cite council, how local news differs from metro, how we treat minors.

It should not contain reconstructed quotes, unsourced crime colour, or a claim that this independent website is the print title now called Logan West News. Eleven years of community publishing, on the old site and in print elsewhere, produced a lot of names. Those people own their names. We do not recycle them as atmosphere.
